About Me

Hey! It's nice connecting with you here. I am Ruiyao WANG, currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Communication at Cornell University. I earned my MA in Communication from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and my BA in English Language (Linguistic & New Media and Internet) from Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics.

My research focuses on media and its role in shaping the experiences of women and migrants, particularly East Asian and Asian female migrants. I am currently working on projects that explore how digital platforms and popular media serve as spaces for female migrants from China and leading a project on the maternal communication of female refugees in Hong Kong.

Popular Feminism on Chinese digital platform

The rise of digital platforms has significantly influenced the discourse on feminism in China, with platforms like Xiao Hong Shu becoming pivotal spaces for feminist content creators. This project explores the interaction between these creators and the platform, focusing on how popular feminism manifests, evolves, and entangles with the digital ecosystem. We are now welcoming more content creators who are working on feminist topics on the platform to join this conversation.

Contact me here, I will return to you as soon as possible!
